I saw this today on my little day-by-day Onion calendar and remembered something an acquaintance said to me a few years back. He was talking about the girlfriend he had come here from Michigan with, the one who he had dated for five years before the move to South Florida. After their move to South Florida, she changed quiet a bit. She took a job in real estate, at which she did very well, and started partying with folks with money. The couple ended up breaking up, but lived together for quite a while after, so he got to see the types of men she was dating – older, rich.

To illustrate the glitziness her new crowd, he explained, “She was hanging out with John McEnroe’s brother. That’s the type of people she was making friends with.”

To this day, that still strikes me as amusing, and a little sad.
