  Aaaaand... pics are going up.

Marine iguana, originally uploaded by estacey.

Slowly but surely. Most of my pics were taken with the 50mm lens, which is incredible for nature photography... The fact they would let me get so close was thrilling. Sadly, I'm noticing lots of my pics are overexposed... I am so not used to this camera yet. With the D70, I learned how to compensate for the underexposure, but it seems that the D300 may go the other way. I was so sick for most of the vacation that I didn't even care... I could've gotten some great landscapes at that one hike, but I just didn't have the energy. I'd shoot and not pay attention to what I got. I'm hoping my pics from the last couple of days turn out, but I haven't uploaded them yet so I don't know. If they don't, ahh well - there's always next time.

Random: This evening I was walking across the street. A white Cadillac entered the neighborhood and turned. I looked at the driver and noted it was an old man, somewhere around 60-70. (I'm not so good with ages.) Then I heard the music coming from his car: 50 Cent's P.I.M.P. You know, "I ain't that nigga tryin' to holla 'cause I want some head / I'm that nigga tryin' to holla cos I want some bread." Just before he drove out of view and I was trying to digest this scene, I noticed the veterans' license plate on his car. An old veteran, listening to 50 Cent. Altogether very strange, and amusing.

Comments:
Photoshop has a way to compensate for over and under exposing, should be able to fix any pictures if you use it.

got it. if you overexpose too much, the detail is lost... mine just look a little light, however, so they were (mostly) salvageable. still, i would like to just get the damn thing right without having to worry about PS saving my sorry ass. ah well, that's what practice is for i guess.

Making a difference

A small boy lived by the ocean. He loved the creatures of the sea, especially the starfish, and he spent much of his time exploring the seashore.

One day the boy learned there would be a minus tide that would leave the starfish stranded on the sand.

When the tide went out, he went down to the beach, began picking up the stranded starfish, and tossing them back into the ocean.

An elderly man who lived next door came down to the beach to see what the boy was doing. Seeing the man's quizzical expression, the boy paused as he approached. "I'm saving the starfish!" the boy proudly declared.

When the neighbor saw all of the stranded starfish he shook his head and said: "I'm sorry to disappoint you, young man, but if you look down the beach, there are stranded starfish as far as the eye can see. And if you look up the beach the other way, it's the same. One little boy like you isn't going to make much of a difference."

The boy thought about this for a moment. Then he reached his small hand down to the sand, picked up another starfish, tossed it out into the ocean, and said: "Well, I sure made a difference for that one!"
